- Clean
the gas burner with petrol to get a clear blue flame.
- In winter, soda bicarbonate
can be used as a dry
shampoo and dog deodorant.
- Mice are allergic
to mint. Put a few drops of essence of peppermint on cotton
wool and leave it near mouse holes. Alternatively, keep
bunches of watercress near food in a pantry.
- After defrosting
a refrigerator or freezer, wipe round the insides with a
rag soaked in glycerine. This will speed up the defrosting
process next time.
- You can lose weight
by regularly taking a
teaspoonful of honey in warm water every morning on an empty
stomach When small babies cry continuously, give them one
or two drops of honey in a spoonful of warm water. They
will stop crying and doze off to sleep.
- Take one tea
spoon
of sugar and heat it for a few minutes. When it turns brown
in colour, mix it into the cake batter quickly. This will
give the cake a rich colour.
- For popcorns to pop
more easily, sprinkle them with warm water, an hour before
popping.
- For slippery fish,
rub your fingers first with salt. Handling fish gets a lot
easier.
- To remove oil stains
from woolen
clothes,
apply a little curd over the area and wash them after sometime.
The stains will vanish after awhile.
- To clean coffee stains,
dip a white cloth in beaten egg yolk and rub the yolk into
the stain. Then rinse with clear water.
- For gastric trouble,
take a tablespoon of ajwain along with ¼ tsp. Of black salt.
Just swallow the mixture with a glass of water and you will
feel better within a few minutes.
- Your toothbrush will
be bacteria free if you soak it in hot salt water, once
a week.
- For headaches caused
by bright sunlight,
here's quick remedy. Add limejuice and a little ginger paste
to warm water and drink it. It brings instant relief.
- If curd is prepared
in a casserole, curd will be thick and tasty.
- To prevent the tools
from rusting, put a piece of charcoal with them in the toolbox.
- Keep a piece of jiggery
in your ghee jar to prevent it from becoming rancid.
- If asafetida has
turned very hard, store it along with a few green chilies.
It will soften.
- Coconut oil can be
kept fresh and clean by p
lacing
a few camphor pieces in it. Also, it will be more cool and
fragrant.
- To keep bananas fresh
for a longer period, wrap them neatly and tightly in newspapers
and keep them in a refrigerator.
- Add a few peppercorns
to the camphor box. The camphor will last longer and won't
evaporate.
- To get rid of cockroaches,
put a little stale beer in a narrow mouthed bottle and leave
it uncorked in the kitchen, overnight. In the morning, the
bottle will be full of dead cockroaches.
- To reduce the bitterness
of methi leaves,
sprinkle
some salt and keep it aside for 10 minutes. Then squeeze
the leaves tightly and chop them. All the bitterness will
vanish.
- To make the gravy
thick and tasty, roast one tablespoon of gram flour (besan)
and sprinkle it immediately in boiling gravy.
- To protect sugar from
ants, put few cloves in the sugar container.
- To clean the oven
and remove the odour from it, keep four teaspoons of ammonia
in a bowl on the lower shelf, keep a bowl of the oven for
a few minutes. Keep the door of the oven closed for the
